Lanie Kerrigan (Angelina Jolie), a feature reporter at a Seattle TV station, leads the ultimate superficial life, even though she thinks she has it all - a superstar boyfriend (Christian Kane), a gorgeous apartment and a shot at a big network assignment. Her perfect world starts unraveling after a homeless street seer (Tony Shalhoub) tells Lanie that she leads a meaningless existence and will die the following week. When the savant's other predictions come true, Lanie begins to re-examine her life and priorities - which include rekindling a relationship with a cameraman (Edward Burns) with whom she has long been at odds.
Lanie Kerrigan (Angelina Jolie), journaliste d'une station de télévision de Seattle, mène une vie superficielle en pensant qu'elle possède tout pour être heureuse ; un petit ami vedette du monde artistique (Christian Kane), un appartement magnifique et la possibilité d'une nomination au grand réseau. Son monde parfait est secoué quand un voyant, une espèce de vagabond trainant dans les rues (Tony Shalhoub), lui dit qu'elle mène une existence insignifiante et qu'elle mourra la semaine prochaine. Quand les autres prédictions du voyant se réalisent, Lanie commence à ré-examiner de nouveau sa vie pour mettre de l'ordre dans ses priorités.
